The Support Services Division is a vital component of the Sheriff’s Office, responsible for the development, management, and continuous update of the policy and procedure manual.

The division conducts thorough research on relevant laws and policies, ensuring that the manual is always accurate, current, and compliant before being distributed to all employees. In addition to policy management, the division collaborates closely with all other divisions within the Sheriff’s Office to maintain an efficient and timely flow of information.

The support services division also oversees several critical functions, including community engagement, Human Resources, agency records management, open records requests, recruitment, training, and internal affairs. The division plays a key role in fostering positive relationships with the community, ensuring that the Sheriff’s Office is responsive to the public concerns and needs. Support Service manages Human Resources to support employee well-being and development. Ensures the proper handling and retention of agency records, and addresses open records requests to maintain transparency.

Furthermore, the division oversees recruitment to attract qualified candidates, coordinates training programs to ensure personnel are well-prepared for their duties and manages internal affairs to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and accountability within the agency.

Community Engagement

The Community Engagement Section of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to fostering positive relationships between the agency and the public. This section is responsible for organizing and coordinating scheduled public events, ensuring community outreach efforts align with the Sheriff’s Office’s mission and values. Additionally, the Community Engagement Section handles media inquiries and prepares press releases to keep the public informed about important developments and initiatives. By maintaining clear and open communication, this section plays a key role in building trust and transparency within the community.

Events

We participate in a number of events throughout the year to promote safety awareness and confidence in the Sheriff’s Office. We enjoy being involved in the community, connecting with citizens, and being there for the public. We also host our annual Public Safety Fall Festival and other exciting events.

Media Inquiries

If you are a member of the media and wish to schedule an interview with any employee of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, a formal request must be submitted in advance. You can submit a request here to our Public Information Officer. This process ensures proper coordination and allows us to provide accurate and timely information.

Human Resources

This section is responsible for all areas of Human Resources within the Sheriff’s Office. Our staff works closely with all employees to ensure that their needs are met in this area. Allison King, Human Resources Manager, is responsible for establishing and maintaining accurate personnel records, time records, payroll records, workers compensation files and for coordinating with the Fayette County Human Resources Department.

Internal Affairs

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit investigates allegations of employee misconduct and maintains records of complaints made against Sheriff’s Office employees.

Complaints can be made in person, by telephone, letter or email. Complaints that are deemed to be minor can be returned to supervision for disposition. Complaints that are categorized as major will require a thorough investigation by Internal Affairs personnel.

During the course of an investigation, Internal Affairs personnel report the status and findings directly to the Sheriff.

Open Records Requests

The Support Services Division is responsible for responding to Open Records Requests in accordance with the Georgia Open Records Act O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70.

Criminal History Requests

The Records Section can process G.C.I.C. (Georgia Crime Information Center) Criminal History requests for the following reasons:

  • Employment
  • Personal reasons (We do not accept requests for housing or apartment purposes)
  • Volunteering for churches, recreational departments, non-profit organizations, etc.

Criminal History requests must be made in person and the individual must reside in Fayette County. A consent form must be completely filled out and signed. The individual must be at least 17 years old and must also present either a valid state driver’s license, United States Military I.D. card or United States passport.

Fees

  • $20 per request (No charge for volunteering purposes)
    Only exact cash, business checks, certified checks, or money orders made payable to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office will be accepted. No personal checks.

Request to Restrict Arrest Record

The Records Section accepts and collects the initial fee and application for the process of restricting arrest records (expungement) requests.

  • O.C.G.A §35-3-37 provides for the restriction of certain criminal history records for non-criminal justice purposes when approved by the prosecuting attorney.

Fees

  • $25 per arrest cycle – offense date (non-refundable)

Georgia Driver's History Requests

Copies of a Motor Vehicle Record “MVR” can be obtained at any Georgia Department of Driver Services location. The only Fayette County location is at:

Incident & Accident Report Requests

The Records Section is responsible for the processing, retention, and storage of incident reports and accident reports. Incident reports, as well as accident reports, are generally made available for dissemination to the public and other authorized individuals within 3 to 5 business days from the date the incident or accident was filed. All reports may be obtained either in person, mail, or email.

Fees

  • Accident Reports: $5 per report/per copy (No charge for those individuals involved) or BuyCrash.com
  • Incident Reports: .10¢ per page (No charge for those individuals involved)

Special Weapons & Tactics Team (SWAT)

The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team is an all-volunteer unit comprised of specially trained deputies in the use of various weaponry and tactics.

SWAT is deployed in situations that require a specialized tactical approach. This includes high-risk incidents such as domestic violence calls, hostage scenarios, barricaded suspects, active manhunts, the execution of search or arrest warrants, and covert surveillance operations.

Crisis Negotiations

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiation Team operates as part of the Criminal Investigations Division and works alongside the SWAT unit. Its mission is to respond to critical incidents where skilled communication and de-escalation are needed.  Members of the team are specially trained in negotiation tactics, crisis intervention, and establishing rapport in high-stress situations. They aim to preserve life, prevent harm to hostages, innocent persons, law enforcement personnel, and the subjects involved, while facilitating a peaceful resolution whenever possible.
