Mission
The mission of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy is to develop highly trained and community-focused law enforcement officers. Through academic instruction, hands-on experience, and physical training, FCSRTA prepares cadets to uphold the highest standards of integrity, service, and public safety. The Academy fosters a culture of accountability and leadership to ensure graduates are fully equipped to meet the demands of law enforcement within Fayette County and beyond.
Curriculum

Physical Agility

Cadets must complete a minimum of 60 hours of Physical Agility Training. This requirement includes daily physical training (PT) sessions, each lasting approximately one hour, and consists of activities such as calisthenics and running. Click here for more information.

Course Length
Each academy class typically lasts approximately 18 to 19 weeks; however, the duration may vary due to holidays, scheduling adjustments, or unforeseen events.
Post Requirements

In Georgia, the certification process to become a police officer is regulated by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council (POST). Candidates pursuing Basic Law Enforcement Training at GPSTC must meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. Be at least 18 years old
  2. Be a citizen of the United States
  3. Have a high school diploma or its equivalent
  4. Not have been convicted of a crime for which the punishment could have been imprisonment.
  5. Successfully pass the state-required Physical Agility Test prior to being accepted. Read details here.
