Special Operations
Canine Unit
Our full-service canines are trained in narcotics detection and suspect apprehension. Working alongside them, our bloodhounds specialize in human scent tracking, making them an invaluable resource in locating missing persons, fleeing suspects, and endangered individuals. This diverse and highly trained team enhances the effectiveness and safety of our deputies while strengthening our ability to respond quickly and decisively in a wide range of situations.
Crime Suppression
Drone Program
The Drone Unit is another specialized unit which supports all divisions in the FCSO using small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS), commonly known as drones. The drones provide aerial perspectives for situational awareness during incidents, traffic collision investigations, tactical deployments, search and rescue for fleeing subjects, lost/runaway juveniles, and lost elderly/mentally diminished persons.
All remote pilots in command of drone flights are Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 certified and train regularly using FAA and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidelines. All Sheriff’s Office flights maintain the scope of the operation to help protect the Fayette County Citizen’s reasonable expectation of privacy.
As transparency is an expectation of Sheriff Babb, all flight paths can be viewed on our dashboard: https://cloud.skydio.com/dashboard/fayettecountysheriff.
