Sheriff Babb has 25 years of service with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and 3 years of service with the City of Atlanta Police Department before being elected Sheriff and beginning his first term on January 1, 2013.
Sheriff Babb has brought intelligence led policing and crime analysis to the Sheriff’s Office with great success. An establishment of a North Precinct is an agency first. Sheriff Babb has also instituted annual in-house training to prepare officers for the diverse challenges officers face today. The reality of a new training facility complex, including an emergency vehicle operation driving course, is moving forward. Among internal changes to create a more efficient agency, Sheriff Babb has created an environment of expanded transparency with the media and the citizens. Various ways the Sheriff’s Office has been able to maintain public trust is by instituting the Sheriff’s Citizen Academy and routinely participating in community meetings.
Always looking to have greater success in our role, we are initiating an Explorer program for young people contemplating a career in law enforcement or a related field in the criminal justice system.
